Do you need help with establishing food authenticity? If so, elemental profiling using ICP-MS, ICP-OES, and MP-AES could be the answer as an approach for geographic authentication of various foods and beverages. Learn more by watching the following presentation.

Why should you view this presentation?

This webinar is suitable for lab managers and lab personnel interested in elemental analysis and using statistical tools to get more out of elemental data.

By viewing this presentation you will learn:

  • how to use elemental profiles obtained using an ICP-MS, ICP-OES, and MP-AES coupled with statistical software like Mass Profiler Professional (MPP)
  • how to determine if the variance between samples is adequate to distinguish growing origin
  • how to gain insights into how statistical profiling can provide insights into food authenticity or consistency.

Presenters

SusanEbelerWebSusan Ebeler
Professor of Viticulture and Enology, UC Davis
Prof. Ebeler's research focuses on development and application of analytical chemistry techniques to study wine flavor chemistry; understanding physico-chemical interactions of flavors with nonvolatile wine components; and elucidation of the chemical mechanisms for observed health effects of wine and wine components.

CourtneyTanabeCourtney Tanabe
Application Scientist, UC Davis
Courtney Tanabe received her B.S. in Chemistry from Oregon State University in 2012, and her Masters in Forensic Chemistry University of California, Davis in 2015. Currently, Courtney is a Phd student at the University of California, Davis in the Viticulture and Enology Department. Her work centres around food forensics and is currently focused on applying atomic spectroscopy techniques in her analysis of wine.
